Denver, CO – March 1, 2010: There are over 100 business listing directories on the internet. And when you include social media sites like LinkedIn, Facebook, YouTube, Wordpress.com, Blogger.com and more, this number starts growing very quickly.
For years, businesses have been striving to get themselves listed online. Individual businesses, like real estate agents, franchises and more, create Facebook and LinkedIn profiles in an effort to get their name out there and in front of the client. This effort helps them generate business from online traffic.
The challenge, in the case of a real estate agent, comes when they switch firms (i.e. from a Century 21 to a Coldwell Banker or Re Max). Technically; they are in trademark and trade name infringement. This could cause them to go through a large legal battle, thousands of dollars in fines and ultimately lose their license.
